Yes, and forgot to say that Newscoop 3.5.3 can be installed in subdirectory too.

Dave, if you can look at error log file of server. But it seems the problem is with function "FollowSymLinks" in your apache configuration file .htacces. Many hosting providers don`t support this function so you have to replace it with:+Sy…

Don`t understand the politics of using The Journal template
I tried already three hostings and can`t install 4.0 RC2, maybe something will change with the final release of 4.0.(I hope) I don`t understand why the 4-th version can`t be installed on php 5.2. In Ukraine only several hosters have php 5.3
